Abstract
Objedives : As a basic research for development of standard product of Astraglalus Root, the morphologic characteristics of the powders of medicinal plants used as Astraglalus Rwt in Korea was studied. Therefor, ,medicinal plants distributed as Astraglalus Rwt in Korean market were widely collected. and the flours of the plants were analyzed and compared by microscope examination according to the factors such as the original plant. habitat, and years of growth.
Methods : Medicinal plants distrihuted as Astraglalus Root in Korean market were widely collected. The genuineness and quality were checked for selection for specimens. The powder of the specimen was mounted by a solution of Glycerin, Acetic acid and Water at the rate of 1 : 1 : 1. The samples was observed by optic microscope, photographs were taken. The characteristics were sketched in lines.
1. According to the factors such as the original plant, years of growth or habitat, the powders showed the following microtissue in common.
1) Some of the fibers form a bundle and others on the contrary, are pretty much away from each other. The diameter is 12-23~. The fiber wall is thick with vertical cracks on the surface. The newborn walls are usually away from the secondary wall. Both ends are usually snapped with a beard or flat shape as if it was cut.
2) The vessel is usually of no color or light browny yellow with a diameter of 33-120§. The vessels are arranged close.
3) A number of starch particles were observed. Single particles showed a circular or ellipsoidal shape with a diameter of 5-15m. Multi-particles consist of 2-4 single particles.
4) Seen from the surface, it seems that accessory cell forms a polygon.
Results :
2. According to the original plant, powder of Astmgdus membmceus Bunge is yellowish white and the number of starch particles is comparatively small. On the contrary, the powder of Astmgalus membmeus var. mngolicus(Bge.) Hsiao is yellow, and the n u m k of starch particles is comparatively big.
3. According to the habitat, there was no significant difference found in the momhological characteristics of mwders of Astmedus membnmaceus Bunee from Yunchun Kvunekidw and Junesun Kangwondo.
4. According to the years of growth, the starch particles of AsimgGus membmmceus Bunge grown 3 or 4 years were smaller than that grown 1 or 2 years.
Conclusion : Astragidus Root could be valuated by microscope examination of the powder whether it is Astmgalus membranaceus Bunge or Astmgdus membmeus var. mongolicus(Bge.) Hsiao, or whether it is 1 or 2 years old or 3 or 4 years old.
